Demonstrators staged a protest march to stop thousands of people attending the proposed rally in Chandigarh, the capital of the Indian state of Punjab, in solidarity with impoverished Kashmiris and burned slogans of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the Kashmir Media Service, dozens of workers, including women belonging to different unions of farmers and students, were arrested for preventing them from participating in the protest march. These groups belonging to the left had prepared a memorandum for the Governor of Punjab, VP Singh Badnore, demanding the restoration of sections 370 and 35A, the autonomy of the Kashmiris and the abolition of the Black Law Armed Forces Special Powers Act in occupied Kashmir. ۔ The Indian government's decision to stop the protesters before reaching Mohali was overturned as thousands of people were allowed to stay at the place where they were stopped. Most of the sit-in was given in Bhatanda, Mansa, Faridkot, Short, Sangrur, Ferozepur and Barnala districts of southern Punjab, while in Mohali and Tarn Taran, protesters also torched the slums of the Indian Prime Minister. Similar protests took place at 23 places in the eleven districts after the Punjab police stopped the march in Chandigarh. Hamnshu Kumar, an activist working for peace, said that the way the Indian government repealed Sections 370 and 35A, it violated the Indian Constitution and parliamentary democracy and also violated the human rights of the Kashmiri people. He said this while talking to supporters after stopping a protest march in Mohali. He said that this was a bigger attack by the Indian government than the emergency. The march included workers from the Punjab Students 'Union, the Youth Bharat Sabha, the Peasant Sangharsh Committee, the Pando Workhorsemen and other industrial workers' organizations.
