US President Donald Trump dismisses US national security chief John Bolton

US President Donald Trump dismisses US national security chief John Bolton

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has fired his fond national security adviser John Bolton, saying he does not "strongly" agree with his position.

"I resigned from John, which I received this morning," Trump announced on Twitter.

"I announced last night to John Bolton that his services are no longer needed in the White House," Trump wrote, adding that he would name an alternative next week.

Bolton denied the dismissal, saying he had resigned.

WASHINGTON: In the days following stunned news, Trump has sparked controversy by revealing that he is committed to secret talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Bolton is an experienced and controversial figure who has a deep connection to the invasion of Iraq and other aggressive foreign policy decisions. The White House is seen as a muscular force for Iran, Venezuela and other troublesome places.
As is often the case with Trump, there is an element of chaos in sudden change.

Trump's tweet was announced shortly after the White House press office announced that Bolton would soon hold a press conference with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on terrorism issues.

Bolton, calling his version of Trump controversial, apparently said that the president had not personally fired him, as he claimed, on Monday night.
Bolton tweeted, "I offered to resign last night, and President Trump said," Let's talk about that tomorrow.
